It's like they say - better late than never. It's been about five months since my trip to New York and it's a miracle that I still remember the details of my trip. I've been in a creative rut lately so I figured, why not work on something that's halfway done...like my blog post on my trip to New York?
I had never been to New York before so when my sister invited me to tag along on her business trip, I jumped at the opportunity. Hotels would be covered by her work so all I really had to budget for was my plane ticket, food, sightseeing, and of course, my Hamilton ticket. Because she had to work most of the time, I spent most of each day exploring the city by myself. My verdict on traveling alone: it's pretty lonely, even for an introvert. I enjoyed it maybe about the first two days but after that, I was dying to talk to people and started conversations with a lot of strangers I met along the way. But overall, it was a great experience.
My idea of New York was like a collage, made up of different scenes from shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother, movies like The Devil Wears Prada, things I see on social media, and stereotypes I've heard of "New Yorkers." And honestly, it was just like I pictured it, truly a concrete jungle. Except, people were pretty friendly, unlike what you see in movies haha.
New York is a beautiful city and there was so much to see; I can't wait to visit again.
Some Helpful Tips:
I would recommend the CityPASS if you planning on going to the Empire State Building, American Museum of Natural History, The Met, Top of the Rock/Guggenheim, Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island/Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, and the 9/11 Memorial/Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
Check the Guggenheim schedule beforehand! They might be closed for the time they switch out exhibits
Best way to get around is by walking so try to group the places you want to see
Food is expensive and honestly, the $1.50 pizza slices were better than some of the $15 lunches I ate
